Thievery

I was busy stealing your heart

while you were taking my breath away.

Two thieves lost in the night,

we went our separate ways.

If ever our paths should cross again

I will know better this time around

to lock up what’s important,

and keep my heart safe and sound.

Hooked

Your fancy footwork in the ring

was almost enough to distract me

from the left hook you sent my way

that still glanced, ever so gently,

the atrophied muscle that sat

within my chest for so long

and refused to beat even once

until your left hook, made me strong.

The past has a funny way

of becoming the future you never wanted

mainly because you tend to stay

stuck in the hell seared on your brain.

If only there were a way

to escape the prison you’ve created

then maybe I would be obliged to stay,

but your hell is not my future.

Fault Lines

The earth moved below my feet

as the dishes rattled their own beat

and the ceiling shook, raining down

as the walls crumbled to the ground

creating ruins instead of grand

structures that used to stand

before the never ending assault

that questions, who’s at fault?
