How long have I served
as your hardwood floor?
You pace on my back
with your feelings, unsure.
How long will I last?
When will the boards break?
From the abuse you perfect
with each step you take.
Maybe time will tell
if these squeaky boards will last
but from the view of the floor,
it’s hard to forget the past.
