From here to there
and back again,
I roam the walls
of this lion’s den.
What do I want?
You’ll never know
since what I need,
I’ll never show.
Meow from here
and meow from there,
now I’ll stand
with my icy stare.
You need to learn
how to read my mind
since our language barrier
has us in a bind.
Don’t you know
what I say?
Give me fish,
you big dummy!

Still Standing
Cars fly by,
old buildings stand still
and life travels
down an historic lane
passed through by many
as times never change.
But people do,
and still they stand
unknown lives
inside someone else’s hands
and times never change
where these buildings stand.

Falling in love
is like hearing a new song;
Sometimes you love at first listen,
sometimes it takes a time or two.
Pretty soon you learn all the words
and feel every beat too.
You play it on repeat
and can’t wait to listen again.
Eventually you know it
inside and out.
You sing it in your head.
You play it in your heart.
Then you tire out
and never want to hear it again.
From the very first note,
your skin begins to cringe.
So you move on to something new
and fall in love again,
thinking this is the song
you’ve been waiting for all along.

Purrfection
You are perfection
wrapped up in a ball of fur.
With you, my heart smiles.

The sound of silence,
interrupted by snow
falling so gently
on the ground below.
Only the moon
lights the way
as footsteps crunch
leaving a path of gray.

Dreaming Out Loud
What a wide world there is
outside my little bed.
Adventures await,
an exciting life ahead.
There are critters to kill
and sun to catch,
grass to munch,
and birds to snatch.
Still, I’d rather keep
these dreams inside my head
since dreaming out loud
means I have to leave my bed.

Heart Lands
My home
is where you are.
My heart
is in your hands.
My love
for you goes far.
My life
is where your heart lands.

Fling
The night you said, “hello,”
my heart skipped a beat
and you said your place was near
and that spark brought on the heat.
We climbed the stairs so quickly
and you fumbled with your keys;
as the door closed behind us
you knew exactly how to tease.
Soon your shirt was gone
and soon my heart was still
and soon the night grew long,
each minute a greater thrill.
The sun rose in the sky
as I finally fell asleep
with you safely in my arms
as if you were mine to keep.
But the truth is cold and hard
and love a fickle thing;
but still you stole my heart
during this fleeting fling.

How quickly we went
from
“how was your day?”
movies, flowers,
late night chats,
love, trust,
occasional spats
to
indifference,
distance,
occasional chats
living alone
with our own cats
and
the only question now,
“where is it you work again?”

Art
Fingers once nimble
move stiffly to create art;
wow, these hands have lived.
