Happy Birthday, Mommy

I would not exist without you

and not because you gave birth;

my soul, my wit, my self,

all that you gave me has worth.

All I know and carry inside

could never have come from another

because no one can hold a candle

to the woman who I call Mother.

(Mommy doesn’t rhyme)

Meowther’s Day Cards

It’s mother’s day. My cat mom deserves no prizes, but here are some cards we could be giving to our human moms.

Happy Mother’s Day! What do I get?
To the Mother who is always there… Leave me alone.
I got you one in every color!
Thanks for all that you do, Mom! Maybe you could pick up the pace? I am waiting for my water and food over here.
Have I told you lately how I feel about you? Why don’t you come here and meet my claws.

Sea Breeze

A gentle breeze blew,

a single strand of hair flew,

and you pushed it behind your ear,

smiling so loudly I could hear.

And that smile echoes through,

my head is filled with you

and I know without a doubt,

that moment is what it’s all about.

Cinco de Mayo

Una victoria poco probable

un ejército tan pequeño

una nación orgullosa

un país con un sueño.

Una victoria olvidada

un ejército caído

otra nación borracha

con la sangre de historia.

Picture

I take a picture of your face

and develop it in my mind;

this dark room of wonder

has made me all but blind.

As the image comes to the surface

I marvel at the beauty I see,

altogether forgetting

just ugly you can be.

Hard-Knock Life

I never asked to be a cat

it just happened this way;

perhaps it was just by chance

or I was chosen as they say

Either way this fact holds true,

full time cat-hood is no easy chore;

this life ain’t for slackers

or those who easily bore.

There is no way to explain

just how difficult it may be

so let me close my eyes

and take a nap so that you can see.

Eavesdrop

Sometimes I find it easier

to eavesdrop on my brain

than to ask it directly

for what facts may remain.

I sneak discreetly like a ninja

to the far reaches of my mind

waiting for that juicy gossip

that will free me from a bind.

If no soft whispers reach my ears

and the conversations run dry

there may be nothing to hear,

but at least I gave it a try.
