But I Won’t Do That

I can change my schedule
and I can lose some sleep.
I can make some changes
for the one that my heart keeps.
But certain things, you see,
will never ever change
no matter how much love
the two of us exchange.
I’ll still stop along the road
to chat with a frightened deer
and I’ll still sing so out of tune
that you’ll wish you had no ears.
I’ll still love my baby cat
more than you’ll ever know
and I’ll still be a mommy’s girl
even though I can let go.
I can open my heart
and sure I’ll let you in,
but I’ll never change who I am
or where my soul had been.
There’s a lot that I would do
just to see you smile
so long as you remember,
I’ve been me for a while.

No Longer Here

How can I surprise you
when you’re the one
with whom I share
everything?

Each breakthrough,
each change,
I reach for the phone
to share the news.

Just this one instance
when I can’t call you,
it makes me think
of what will be.

What happens
when the reason
is just that you
are no longer here?

Missing in Print

Your name was missing
from the story in print
but still you worry
that others will get the hint.
You should never have said
those words in your head
if your heart wasn’t behind
those thoughts in your mind.

Now the world knows
just how you feel
and no matter your actions
the community reels.
You’ve made your bed
with others you’ve lead
so now you pay the price
for your full of ego vice.

A Love Poem to My Girl

Oh, how I just can’t wait
for you to walk through that door
in fact, there is nothing else
I could ever want more.

Yes, I sit and I wait
and every task I do
is filled with love
at the very thought of you.

I know this is what you think
but you are simply just a tool
since I am not a dog
and this is April Fool’s.

Silence

Silence is hard to find
and once you do,
it’s less than kind.

Pointing out all your flaws,
it cuts you down
with no just cause.

The ever-ringing in your ears
builds and builds,
releasing all your fears.

You hear silence smile
and think to yourself,
I need some noise for a while.

Stop the Rain

Every tear you shed
wounds my heart,
tears my soul
and being apart.
No matter the cause,
no matter the pain
I’d do anything
to stop the rain.
Every frown you flash,
my stomach aches
as sorrow lives
in your wake.
When hope seems lost
and despair your friend,
my hope is that love
finds you in the end.
