The Simple Things

Sometimes in life we need to remember to slow down and take pleasure in the little things. These are a few of my favorite little things:

-When my bird talks back to me and flashes his smile

-When I wake up in the morning and the house smells like whatever my mom has been cooking or baking. Even though I probably won’t eat anything that she made

-When an actor’s name comes up on the credits when they are actually on the screen

-Monday night trivia

-Doing nothing, anything, and everything with my mom

-The smell of freshly cut grass

-Dr. Pepper

-The first crisp night of the fall

-The way paper soaks in ink from my pen

-Sore muscles from a hard day’s work

-When my kitten naps, plays, eats…okay just the fact that Emilita exists

 

 

Et Tu

I never saw it coming

until the blood made me blind

by then it far too late

to ever change my mind.

Be it one time

or three and twenty,

one piercing blow from you

would be plenty.

And even now

as I take my last breath

my mind wonders et tu

as I accept our death.

Stepping out into the sun,

I shield my eyes from light

after living so long in the dark

even a candle would be bright.

I have morphed into a creature

unlike what anyone has seen

but I am happier this way

at least my soul is clean.

The Thing with Feathers

Hope most certainly has feathers-

and he perches on my soul-

he sings the tunes-and-the words-

which in my heart, never stop at all-

And sweetest- from my Webster- is heard-

and no storm so harsh could ever-

deter my little bird-

who warms my heart-

I’ve heard him in the morn and night-

and at my weakest on my knees-

and always- despite all efforts-

he leaves a crumb- for me.

Pros and Cons

There are two sides to every coin. There is a balance in nature. Every Yin has a Yang. Therefore, I have compiled a list of pros and cons for my life.

Cons

Pros

My cat scratched and hissed at me.

 At least she was paying attention to me.

I have almost finished reading a really good book.

I will start reading a really good book.

My new shoes hurt my feet.

My new shoes make it capable to kill ants.

I am broke.

 

I am the same level of broke that I was last month at this time.
I got busted by the cops.

It was only while playing Grand Theft Auto.
