Happy Birthday, Evan!

One year down
with many more to go
and the sky’s the limit
on all the knowledge you’ll know.

Where will you go?
Who will you be?
Even time won’t tell
all the great things you’ll see.

There will be ups
and there will be downs
but you’re sure to succeed
with your family around.

You’re just starting out
and that can be grand
as long as you greet
the world with an open hand.

So keep that smile on
and don’t ever forget,
to be a good person
and keep your heart fit.

The world may be cruel
but you don’t need to be
since love is stronger
and will always be free.

Lamb

I don’t understand
why you won’t let me in.
There are battles to fight
and wars to win.
If I could only enter,
I would make you see
that nothing can stand
between that mouse and me.
You think you may know
about who I am
but really I’m not
some cute little lamb.
Ferocious and wild,
I’ll attack if I must
’cause I always get my mouse,
in that you can trust.

That Feeling

That feeling,
when you know you’ve forgotten something.
Did I leave the stove on?
Did I lock the door?
Did I put on deodorant this morning?
All these nagging dangers
that consume your every thought
and usually turn out to be nothing,
but hold the potential for
death,
destruction,
and personal ruin.
That is the feeling
that you elicit
in me.

#tbt

You took a piece of my heart
the day that you died
and it’s not like it can grow back.
Just like it’s impossible for you
to come back.

I won’t be the same.
I can’t be the same.
My heart will always
miss a beat
whenever I think
about how I will never
see you again.

Maus

Every noise is you,
every squeaky wheel,
every bump in the night,
every nightmare come real.

Every missing thing,
is back in your lair
and every evil doing,
you accomplish with care.

Every moment,
I lie in wait
as sleep will elude
like you do your bait.

Every breath that I take,
every view that I see,
every minute that passes,
I know you are waiting for me.

Walk By

Every morning,
you walk by
and I don’t even
know your name
but your smile
is all it takes
to brighten up
my day.

Every afternoon,
as if by fate,
I see you pass by
maybe getting lunch
or taking a break
from whatever it is
you do that I
still do not know.

Every evening,
I wait just to see
if you’ll pass by again
but usually I miss
seeing you again
and so I wait
until the next morning
you will walk by again.

Canned

I demand many things of you,
but there is a demand above the rest.
When it’s time to eat,
I want only the best.

So how can it be
that you’re telling me
we are out of can
when that wasn’t the plan?

Mealtime is sacred
and you’ve ruined that for me.
Can’t you see that I’m starving
and you offer me tea?

I don’t want that dry food,
I’m just not in the mood.
When gravy is calling,
you best not be stalling.

So hurry it up
and get what I need
since mistakes like this
might make you bleed.

so drained
by a world
so pained
humans
so shamed
hopelessly
blamed
witches
named
once
so famed
souls
so stained
feeble interest
feigned
sorrow
reigned
the world
maimed
