It would appear
that I have nothing to say,
which for once is perfect
at the end of a long day.
I spend what moments are left
just watching you breathe
and waiting for sleep
to make light take its leave.
The pains of a so-called life
slowly drift from my mind
as my heart settles in
to this perfect love I find.
Tomorrow will come
and chase today away
but my moment here with you,
in my soul will stay.

Made to Love
You say it’s all for me
and I hope that this is true
since all the love I have
is not reserved for you.
I care so much for me,
and surely you do too,
just as it should be,
this fact is nothing new.
Cats are made to be loved,
so that is what you’ll do
so stop playing dumb,
like you haven’t got a clue.

Beauty School Dropout
I’ve settled in
and I’ve settled down,
but can’t you see?
I still wear this frown.
I’ve come to terms
with this new home
but I wish still,
you lost that comb.
I won’t sit still
and I won’t let you win
so back off, beauty queen,
this grooming is fin.

Permission
This is all so new…
you know I don’t like change;
if only you had let me know,
things wouldn’t be so strange.
What’s that you say?
You told me every day?
Well this is the first I’ve heard;
your accusations are absurd.
Perhaps you told me
while I napped in peaceful bliss
but I can’t imagine ever
that I’d agree to this.
You moved my toys
and all my treats and beds
as if it were up to you,
where I rest my head.
I hope that you are happy
because I simply don’t agree
so the next time that you move,
you need permission from me!

Treat Me Sweetly
You say you love me
but if that’s the truth
I sure need something,
some semblance of proof.
One hug, one kiss,
these might work for you
but I should be paid
in not one fish but two.
For this week of stress,
you’ll need to pay
and remember actions
do more than words say.
So you best get that bag
that crinkles so sweetly
and open it wide,
it’s time you treat me.

My Love
It’s not that I don’t like you,
I just love myself too much.
The thought of loving another
gets my fur all in a bunch.
I’ll love you when there’s time
and when it’s best for me
just to keep you hanging
on thoughts of what may be.
Don’t be offended
by what is simply true;
my love for me is greater
than my love for you.

Bought
You tell me to go to the window,
but no cat would obey a command.
So, even if it’s the best view
with a total lay of the land,
I’ll stay right where I am
and let that window rot
because I answer to no one,
but for a fish, I can be bought.

Packing
A short nap,
five hours gone by
and I awake to noise
and slowly I try
to see just what,
what’s happening here
as I approach with caution
these boxes I fear.
What is this clutter
affixed to my floor?
Why are you packing?
I want answers, I implore.
Have you gone mad
or is this a dream?
Just don’t pack my things
as part of your scheme.
Now, if you’ll keep it down,
I will get back to sleep
so no more commotion,
I don’t want to hear a peep!

Holiday
A holiday? What do you mean?
A cat’s work is never done.
Take it easy, relax a bit.
This cat’s too busy
to relax and sit.
I am always busy
from morn ’til night
and my work is plenty,
you can bet your life.
There’s no time to stop
as I’m always on the go
but I guess one 20-hour nap
could be allowed though.

Scheme
You think I can’t hear you
just because my eyes are closed;
but every word you say,
lands on my ears exposed.
You lower your voice,
as if that changes a thing;
but a cat can hear the softest tune
that only the wind can sing.
That twitching of my whiskers
isn’t the result of a sweet dream;
any fool must know the sign
of when a cat’s working on a scheme.
