Fling

The night you said, “hello,”
my heart skipped a beat
and you said your place was near
and that spark brought on the heat.
We climbed the stairs so quickly
and you fumbled with your keys;
as the door closed behind us
you knew exactly how to tease.

Soon your shirt was gone
and soon my heart was still
and soon the night grew long,
each minute a greater thrill.
The sun rose in the sky
as I finally fell asleep
with you safely in my arms
as if you were mine to keep.

But the truth is cold and hard
and love a fickle thing;
but still you stole my heart
during this fleeting fling.

I know now
I have loved you
for a while.
Your laugh
infectious, just like
your smile.

What I would give
to share your
life
and instead of friend
call you
wife.

But fate has chosen
we shall never
be.
Your heart belongs
to one not
me.

I know now
love takes many forms
one of which
we won’t achieve.
But love like this
bonds the souls
with gifts so wonderful
to receive.

Simple as Fate

How many times before
had I seen you in my store?
What changed this time
that you won’t leave my mind?

How did it get this far
as if fated in the stars?
What would your answer be
if I asked to to join me?

Was it your eyes
or the way you move?
Why do I feel
like I have something to prove?

Was it when you said, “hi”
or when I said, “hello?”
Why do I feel the need
to beg you not to go?

How, the first time, did I not see,
your outer and inner beauty?
Why did I wait so long
to realize a bond so strong?

How then must we proceed?
I am at a loss, I concede.
Why must we complicate
something as simple as fate?

Bad Day

It would appear
that I have nothing to say,
which for once is perfect
at the end of a long day.
I spend what moments are left
just watching you breathe
and waiting for sleep
to make light take its leave.
The pains of a so-called life
slowly drift from my mind
as my heart settles in
to this perfect love I find.
Tomorrow will come
and chase today away
but my moment here with you,
in my soul will stay.

BPM

Sixty-five beats per minute
and you catch my eye
as I will you to stop,
you walk right on by.

Eighty-two beats per minute
as you stop in your tracks
and flip your hair gently
as it flows down your back.

Ninety-nine beats per minute
as your eye catches mine;
be still, my heart,
this feeling is divine.

One hundred and twenty beats per minute
and you make your way to me;
I’m glued right to this spot,
waiting for what will be.

One hundred and forty-three beats per minute,
your husky voice fills my ears
and in one beat that lasts a minute
I know you are the one I’ve wanted for years.

A Promise

A promise I made
and a promise I’ll keep;
I’ll love you forever,
my heart’s in so deep.

I fall into your eyes
and land in your soul,
forever embraced
and finally whole.

A promise you made
and a promise I trust
with my heart in your hands,
my solitude a bust.

Watching you sleep
is all the peace I need
and hearing you breathe
means my soul is freed.

A promise I made
and you promised too
that your love for me
is equal to mine for you.

Dawn

Italicized in bold,
standing out
among the rest,
my declaration unfolds,
futile at best.

Love, it isn’t pretty
and hate, uglier still.
But hope stands alone
forever drenched in pity
after love has flown.

Lonely nights drag on,
sleepless, caffeinated,
inebriated until dawn.

Trampled

The herd tiptoes
like giants on speed,
breaking mother nature’s
carefully planned land.
What lay in the path
is soon to be no more
as the rampage begins
and ends in gore.

My heart once was whole
until it heard your voice
and I knew with no doubt
you would leave me crushed.
What more could be done,
my choice simply made;
and through this carnage,
this shell will forever wade.

You Are

You are the moon
and the sun
and every star
in between.

You are the breath
and the life
that surges
through me.

You are the words
and the looks
that are expelled
from my heart.

You are the world,
the universe,
the only candle
in my dark.
