Characterized by an unbearable heat
which causes listlessness and fatigue,
the dog days of summer is a misnomer
since that really describes a cat’s intrigue.
Characterized by an unbearable heat
which causes listlessness and fatigue,
the dog days of summer is a misnomer
since that really describes a cat’s intrigue.
Somehow a legend began,
Most likely started by man,
That cats all down the line,
Have not one life, but nine.
Do they know that this silly notion,
Has caused quite a commotion?
No cat would tell this lie
and I will tell you the reason why.
The cats I know, say but one word,
’tis shorter even than that of a black bird.
It answers any question just fine
My go-to response is always, “nein.”
Scribble, scratch.
Click, clack.
Crumple, tear.
Delete, undo.
On the go tends to blow.
On the move tends to die.
A well aged time-traveler.
An astronaut in cyber space.
Wait, what does that say?
No, auto correct, I didn’t mean that.
Flip, scroll, mail, send, fold, zip.
A blank page,
A blinking cursor,
Your canvas awaits.
I remember the exact moment,
Looking into your eyes,
Seeing something deep within,
Looking past your disguise.
I know the exact minute
That changed both our lives
And as quickly as I fell for you,
I fell out of love with your lies.
Tiny feet scurry across the floor beneath.
Stoic and calm she awaits her treat.
Good things come to those who wait,
Unless that’s just not their fate.
A simple word,
a common gesture,
just one question,
a bold new venture.
Walking one mile,
in another’s shoes,
still can’t shed light
on all there is to lose.
Letting another know
you’d walk alongside
and share a simple word
reveals all that wished to hide.
A simple word,
a common gesture,
ask your question,
start a bold new venture.
Faith
Everyone finds faith in the end.
God isn’t kind enough in life,
but after, he is everyone’s friend.
No God would cause all that strife,
No human could be all that bad,
Thinks the victim ’til he sees the knife.
All this hatred makes the world mad
Yet everyone finds faith in the end.
Turns out then, God ain’t so bad.
How can it have been over a year
since I last heard your voice?
“Chica,” you would say
And then ask me about my day.
I miss our ballgames when you’d shout,
“Way to go Andrew!” every time he struck out.
I remember our high stakes poker games
With a penny ante and 4 aces to stake your claim.
But in my heart I still hear you
Singing and humming, “I’ll be seeing you.”

The waves come crashing down
making it harder to stay afloat.
Just trying to tread water becomes
a tiring task while awaiting a boat.
The ocean swallows you whole
and you hold your breath
while you await your rescue.
Then the light in the distance
pulls you from your imminent death
until you realize it’s not for you.

Falling in love is the easy part,
and you seem to have done that well.
Staying in love is what’s tough on the heart,
But when two hearts beat as one you can walk through hell.
Always remember the look in her eyes
the first time you knew you were complete.
Always remember to compromise
because love is a two way street.
Never forget why your heart can’t beat without hers.
Never forget her smile and how she lights your life.
Never forget why you call her yours.
Never forget how lucky you are to call her your wife.
