Something eats
at my gut,
eviscerating,
wounding
beyond repair.

Something gnaws
in my brain,
tearing,
burning
in absolute pain.

Something devours
my heart whole,
gaping,
empty
will be my soul.

Something nibbles
on what is left,
remnants,
spare parts
beyond repair.

Him

Lights flicker out
and flames grow dim
lost in the space
between you and him.
Never did you think,
this too shall end
but now love is over,
he’s not even your friend.
Life carries on
with or without you,
so how shall it be
will you be happy or blue?
Nights will never be
as long as they are now
and the days will be torture,
a smile turned to a frown.
Miss him or hate him
but the answer is clear,
all of your problems
exist only in your mirror.

6-String

A Christmas gift
wrapped with care
by a secret soul
left unaware.
Will it make you smile
as you strum a tune?
Will it fill your heart
with flowers bloomed?
The gift of music
is divine any time of year
but hopefully this 6-string
brings warm holiday cheer.
What once was mine
is now yours;
love it well
as your spirit soars.

Treat Me Sweetly

You say you love me
but if that’s the truth
I sure need something,
some semblance of proof.

One hug, one kiss,
these might work for you
but I should be paid
in not one fish but two.

For this week of stress,
you’ll need to pay
and remember actions
do more than words say.

So you best get that bag
that crinkles so sweetly
and open it wide,
it’s time you treat me.
