Summertime and the livin’
is grueling.
The temperature’s jumpin’
and the tourists are high.
Your daddy’s dead and your ma is smokin’
so don’t hush, little baby, it’s okay to cry.

Landing on the moon
after shooting for the stars
is still pretty good.
She moves like a leaf on the wind.
So erratic and magnificent,
her colors fill the air
painting pictures
to fill our lungs
as she heads for the unknown
only to end up
a crunch underfoot.
Lately I’ve been lost in thought
and unable to escape
the way you fill my brain and heart
with your voice, your eyes, your shape.
From the moment that I met you
I knew that trouble would ensue
since every part of me
wants every part of you.
I wonder where she’s gone,
the one I call my girl.
I’ve not seen her in so long
but I’ve been focused on this squirrel.
She may have left the state
or she just ran away.
She always comes back late,
but I get a fish so it’s okay.
How long can you walk over me
before I fall flat?
How do you even sleep at night
using me like a door mat?
Eventually I will have had enough
and no words will fix
all the times you abused your privilege
just for the kicks.
There will come a day soon
when I will no longer be
and who will you have then
but the cold and heartless ghost of me?
I drew a map and marked the spot
and there I sat waiting
with the hope that maybe someday
you might see the treasure
you thought you lost.
Today starts anew,
washing yesterday away.
Tomorrow can’t stay.
These forefathers we look up to
fought for many things:
FREEDOM OF RELIGION
AND FREEDOM TO DREAM.
They wanted, not a tyrant
who would dictate their lives,
but a government of the people
meant to help its members thrive.
Even still these grand men
had fortune and land
and already had more power
than most had at hand.
Those who died on the fields,
maybe not in vain,
died without freedom
and died in great pain.
Today we still want
THE FREEDOM TO DREAM
as a tyrant still lingers,
the joke of some meme.
I have found a new place to live
and the rent is really cheap
I bargained down to three fish
after all, four seems kinda steep.
This place is perfect you see,
it’s got windows and screens
to watch all the squirrels
play in the grass that’s so green.
I can’t wait to move in
and for when the rent is due,
what were you confused?
You pay me. I’m not paying you.
