A mere thirty minutes remain
but that feels like eternity
and I wonder how it is
that with you, eternity seems but a minute.
A mere thirty minutes remain
but that feels like eternity
and I wonder how it is
that with you, eternity seems but a minute.
Why would you ever bake
blackbirds in a pie
when plucked right from nature
is still a taste for which to die?
Four and twenty seems too much,
at least for one cat to try.
These humans have it wrong,
would you believe how much they lie?
And then to think these birds
could strut about and fly?
It sounds a recipe for disaster
that takes off to the sky.
The lesson to be learned
is never to trust the guy
who takes all his recipes
straight from a nursery rhyme.
I never asked forgiveness,
what purpose would that serve?
Yet you gave it freely
when I did not deserve.
How foolish could you be,
to trust this darkened soul?
I’d chew you up and spit you out
just to achieve any goal.
You thought you could change me,
did you really think it so?
You’re so blind to reality
you missed that final blow.
I didn’t realize the flames were rising
until it was far too late
and the scent of burning flesh
soon became my fate.
But Hell on earth seems worse
than the Devil down below
so I think I’ll take the flames
since I love to watch them grow.
That five-finger discount
seemed so perfect at the time
but you didn’t read the disclaimer
and now you pay for your crime.
Maybe now you’ve learned your lesson
that nothing in life is free
except now that you’re in jail
the cost of life falls to me.
The power is out,
what could we do in the dark?
Let our love shed light.
I did not vote for Trump
and I did not vote for Hillary;
emails or not, I wasn’t with her
or worried about where the wall will be.
The only thing I needed to know
about any candidate in the race
is how they plan to feed me fish
and give me many mice to chase.
Castles have stood
on less solid ground
than the love we built
that always surrounds.
And no matter the siege
I know we will thrive
since love like this
is why we survive.
Fearlessly falling towards earth
I decided a pit stop on the moon
was a far better choice
than landing on a barren land
that had been picked clean,
not by my ancestors,
but rather, my peers.
Ten years have come and gone
and what memories remain
are so faint and barren
I can’t even recall your name.
