Whole

When I look in the mirror

I see your face

and when I speak

I hear your voice.

The older I get

the more sure I am

that you’ve instilled

not only your morals

but your spirit as well

into my soul

and I shall carry

it with me, not

as a burden, but

to make me whole.

Mother Nature

Mother Nature forgot

to throw the burial shroud

over the face of death

that covers Her earth.

That virginal white

gives hope so pure

until that too turns

dark with the usual dirt.

So while She forgot

to shelter our eyes,

perhaps it is best

we forget the disguise.

Acrocat

One paw in front of the other,

with my tail held high in the air.

I am the greatest act you’ve seen,

I attempt feats one would not dare.

As you sit on the edge of your seat

my act has freely won your stare.

With every success comes the applause

but you forget, I’m a cat, I don’t care.

My Welcomed Distraction

I try to do my work

but there you are in my chair.

I surrender to your wills

and welcome your deposit of hair.

I try to clean the room

and here you are to help

but then the vacuum comes

and you are gone with a yelp.

I try to watch the film

and welcome you with open arms

only to find out you think

your butt holds more charm.

I try to go to sleep

and shut my eyes for the day

only to find out now

you’ve decided to play.

WHATEVER IS BEHIND MY MASK,
YOU HAVE DISCOVERED IT.
I TRIED TO CATCH IT AS IT FELL,
BUT IT WAS GONE BEFORE I COULD TELL.
I PRIDE MYSELF IN MYSTERY,
BUT WITH YOU I CANNOT BE PROUD
I AM HELPLESS WHEN I AM IN YOUR HANDS.
BUT, THERE IS NO PLACE I’D RATHER BE,
WHEN I’M WITH YOU
AND YOU’RE WITH ME.
