as clear as day,

my eyes do see

the pain you do

inflict upon me

as dark as night,

your eyes do hold

the evil ways

i watch unfold

as hot as hellfire,

my skin does burn

knowing the demon

is what i yearn

cold as ice,

you sure may be

but even still

you’re meant for me

I remember your strength

in a way everyone could see

and for the longest time

you were who I wanted to be.

I can see your strength now

in a way almost no one can see

and I know without doubt

you’re stronger than I could ever be.

I hope you know the pain you’ve caused,

although I can’t imagine you do,

since the only pain that you can see

is that which you go through.

I don’t deny it must be bad,

looking in the mirror each day

and facing who you are inside

and pretending that’s okay.

The buzzing of the needle

scares many away

but the thrill that it elicits

is not achieved another way.

The message that I’m making

lasts forever on my skin

and I’ll take it to my grave,

along with all my sins.

Plain black or even color too,

my skin, the empty canvas awaits

for the artist’s fine creation

and the pure joy it elates.

The blues got nothing on the despair

that lingers in my heartstrings

fueled by my utter lack of care.

The motions get harder to go through

as the façade that I’ve weakly created

breaks down piece by piece too.

All that’s left is this illegitimate shell

of a person’s battered remains

with what was once whole, in hell.

That five-finger discount

seemed so perfect at the time

but you didn’t read the disclaimer

and now you pay for your crime.

Maybe now you’ve learned your lesson

that nothing in life is free

except now that you’re in jail

the cost of life falls to me.
