Not As it Seams

You are so quick to judge

when you haven’t got a clue

yet you say you’re not judgmental

and that’s all I see you do.

Never once did you stop to think

what it might be like for another

but from up so high it’s hard to see

that one of us is not so unlike the other.

That troubled child, all covered in ink

is not as troubled as you seem to think

and that woman put so tightly together seems

so perfect, but all the while is fraying at the seams.

Easter Basket

I hear the people talking,

as if they think I don’t hear,

about a friendly visit

that happens once a year.

They say there will be baskets

filled with chocolate and cheer.

brought to us with care

from a pair of floppy ears.

Well I am sure not one for chocolate

and no cat exhibits cheer,

so take the contents back

but leave the basket here.

A Spring Trip Down the Greeting Card Aisle

Congratulations on the baby! You look a lot skinnier now.
Happy Earth Day! I bought you some property on Mars for when we finish destroying the planet.
April showers bring May flowers… This is my subtle way of saying you should shower.
Happy Opening Day! Just don’t bring your kids to the clubhouse.

Reader’s Choice

It has been a while since I have shared any short stories with you, so it must be time to get writing. A while back I shared some fortunes created from a book, The Good Fortune Cookie, and I thought that might be a good way to get the creative juices flowing again. Cast your vote for which statement you would like to see be the inspiration for the story and I will try to post it next week. I hate to make promises and not keep them, so it may be a bit longer than a week, but I shall try my best.

Stained

Your lipstick stained my shirt.

My bitterness stained your soul.

It was never my intention

but it was your heart that I stole.

I should feel some remorse

or even a twinge of regret

but my favorite shirt was ruined

by your lipstick stain that set.

Full Circle

A circle is supposed to be perfect

with no end and no beginning.

I would rather walk along

a jagged and imperfect form

with no answer as to where

on this lonely planet I will end

than to take the slightest chance

I would end up full circle,

back with you.
